Everyone knows that Phil Hellmuth has been a reigning champion, perhaps the king of the World Series of Poker for more than 20 years. His dreams of winning the Main Event came true in 1989 when he became the youngest player, then a mere 24 years-old, to take home all the marbles. To date he has amassed a record 13 WSOP bracelets and more than 17 million in winnings, but he still has dreams.
He was dreaming of taking home his 14th WSOP bracelet when those dreams were shattered by Ted Forrest in a dramatic heads up. So now he just has to be happy with making his 101 in-the-money finishes, the record in WSOP history, and his 50 “Final Table” appearances. It was a brilliantly fought battle that lasted more than four hours when Forrest shattered Hellmuth’s dreams.
Forrest took the bracelet and a nice $121,196 to add to his piggy bank while a somewhat dejected Hellmuth walked away with $74,848 for second place. However, in a very un- “Poker Brat” manner Hellmuth tweeted out: “Congrats to my old friend Ted Forrest on winning #WSOP Razz tourn. If I had to lose to someone, I’m glad it was Teddy….2nd place for me.”
Another dreamer whose dreams have been realized was Alex Bolotin. He walked of with the win in Event #6: $1,500 No-Limit Hold’em Shootout and ran of with the WSOP bracelet and a sweet $259,211. And with a pair of kings, he shattered Dimitar Danchev’s dreams. Danchev had to settle for 2nd place and $160,410.
